ถนนเยาวราช เป็นถนนสายหนึ่งแห่งกรุงเทพมหานคร ระยะทางความยาวตลอดเส้นทางประมาณ 1 กิโลเมตร ได้รับการกล่าวขานและขนานนามว่าเป็น "ถนนมังกร" โดยมีจุดเริ่มต้นของหัวมังกรที่ซุ้มประตูเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 60 พรรษาบริเวณวงเวียนโอเดียน ท้องมังกรอยู่ที่บริเวณตลาดเก่าเยาวราชและสิ้นสุดปลายหางมังกรที่บริเวณปลายสุดของถนน สร้างขึ้นในรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ใช้ระยะเวลาในการตัดถนน 8 ปี ตั้งแต่ ปี พ.ศ. 2434 - พ.ศ. 2443 เพื่อให้เยาวราชกลายเป็นสถานที่สำหรับส่งเสริมการค้าขาย เดิมทีชื่อ "ถนนยุพราช" และได้โปรดเกล้าพระราชทานนามใหม่ว่า "ถนนเยาวราช"

ถนนเยาวราชประกอบไปด้วยจุดสำคัญหลายจุดเช่น วงเวียนโอเดียน ถนนเจริญกรุง ซึ่งอยู่ในท้องที่แขวงสัมพันธวงศ์ เขตสัมพันธวงศ์ ทางทิศตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของถนนเยาวราชตัดกับถนนทรงสวัสดิ์ (สี่แยกเฉลิมบุรี) ถนนราชวงศ์ (สี่แยกราชวงศ์) และถนนจักรวรรดิ (สี่แยกวัดตึก) ข้ามคลองรอบกรุง (สะพานภาณุพันธุ์) เข้าสู่ท้องที่แขวงวังบูรพาภิรมย์ เขตพระนคร สิ้นสุดที่แยกถนนพีระพงษ์ตัดกับถนนมหาไชยและถนนจักรเพชร

บริเวณถนนเยาวราชเป็นแหล่งชุมชนชาวจีนและชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนเป็น จำนวนมาก จัดเป็นย่านธุรกิจการค้า การเงิน การธนาคาร ร้านทอง ภัตตาคาร ร้านอาหาร ร้านค้า ฯลฯ รวมทั้งแหล่งท่องเที่ยวสำคัญแห่งหนึ่งของกรุงเทพมหานครโดยได้รับการขนานนาม "ไชน่าทาวน์" (China Town) จากนักท่องเที่ยวชาวต่างชาติ

History of Bangkok's Chinatown

Chinatown is located in one of the oldest areas of Bangkok. It was set up by Chinese traders who came in junks to trade with Thailand (Siam) during the Rattanakosin period, about 18th century. By the end of 1891, King Rama V had demanded many roads to be built, and Yaowarat Road is one of them. Chinatown does not consist of only Yaowarat Road, but also includes others such as: Charoen Krung Road, Mungkorn Road, Songwat Road, Songsawat Road, Chakkrawat Road, etc. Yaowarat is the center of the area. Land prices around Yaowarat Road traditionally been the priciest in Bangkok and Thailand, but now become the second most expensive after the land around famous shopping centers complex of Siam Square.
