Two low-cost airlines, Nok Air and One-To-Go, will have flights landing at Don Muang airport on Saturday, the day before it officially reopens.

The announced flight schedule shows that six flights from major cities where Nok Air operates will land at Don Muang on Saturday 24 March while 27 flights are due to take off on Sunday 25.

As for One-To-Go, five of its flights will land at the airport on Saturday and 32 flights on Sunday.

Sub-Lt Preecha Phaedam, chief of the air traffic control department of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, said an average of 10 flights a day is expected at Don Muang after it reopens and there is no need to boost the number of the air traffic control officers. Currently, 40 officers a day or around 10 officers per shift work at the air traffic control tower.

Suvarnabhumi accident

A plane operated by EVA Air arriving from Singapore smashed 10 lights between the B 10 and B 11 runways while landing at Suvarnabhumi airport at 3am yesterday.

A source at Airports of Thailand Plc said EVA Air agreed to pay compensation for the damage as its pilot made an error. The light bulbs cost 20,000 baht apiece.

Airport director Serirat Prasutanont said such minor accidents were not uncommon.

A major emergency evacuation drill would be carried out soon. It would cover fires, bombings and a siege of the passenger terminal.
