Singapore (dpa) - Women travellers are on the rise particularly to Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Indonesian island of Bali, a survey said on Friday.

Four out of every 10 Asia-Pacific trips are made by women compared to one in 10 in the mid-1970s, said the 2007 MasterCard survey.

It also showed that 42 per cent of women queried had travelled in the last 12 months, compared with 37 per cent of men.

Agoda Company, an independent online travel website and hotel booking firm, cited a 70 per cent hike in the number of bookings made to Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bali since July 2006.

"As this trend matures, it will be increasingly important for online merchants to develop travel products and websites that appeal to women," said Agoda chief operating officer Robert Rosenstein.
